BlurScreen Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 11, 2026
BlurScreen collects nothing, transmits nothing, and has no servers. Everything it does happens entirely on your device.
What BlurScreen stores
BlurScreen stores the following, locally, in Chrome's built-in
chrome.storage API, on your own device only:
- The position, size, and shape of blur zones you draw
- A label for each zone (defaults to "Area N"; only changes if you type a new one — never auto-filled from page content)
- Your chosen blur style, intensity, and opacity settings
- Named presets you create
- The list of sites you've granted BlurScreen permission to run on
BlurScreen never stores the text, images, or other content of any page you visit. It never takes or stores a screenshot.
What BlurScreen never does
- It makes no network requests of any kind — no analytics, no crash reporting, no remote configuration, no update checks beyond Chrome's own built-in extension auto-update mechanism.
- It never reads or transmits page content to any server, because there is no server.
- It never shares data with any third party, because no data ever leaves your device.
Permissions
BlurScreen requests the following Chrome permissions, and only uses each for the stated purpose:
| Permission | Purpose |
|---|---|
storage | Save your blur zones, settings, and presets locally |
commands | Support keyboard shortcuts (quick-hide, add area) |
scripting | Inject BlurScreen's on-page overlay into a tab after you've granted access to that site |
activeTab | Let the toolbar icon act on your current tab for one session, without needing standing access |
| Site access (requested per-site) | Run on a specific website — requested one site at a time, only when you choose "Enable on this site." Never granted for every website automatically. |
You can review or revoke site access at any time from BlurScreen's
Options page, or from chrome://extensions.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date above will change, and any change will be reflected in the extension's Chrome Web Store listing.
